I started coming down with a little cold yesterday. My first cold in a long while.
I know that I’m not alone. Lots of people are starting to come down with cold and flu symptoms. ‘Tis the season, right?
And if you are like me, YOU might need to sing with a cold.
Oh, I get it. Singing sick is NOT fun. I personally hate singing with a sore throat. However, life happens and sometimes the “show must go on” - cold symptoms and all.
I have many “go to” natural remedies for when I’m starting to get a sore throat. The yummiest (and least amount of weird) is my Thieves tea recipe.
Thieves essential oil has been a staple in my household for over a decade. I diffuse, cook with, and use it in tinctures.
Thieves oil is actually a blend of several essential oils, most often:
Cinnamon: Made from the bark, leaves, or twigs of several species of cinnamon tree
Clove: Made from the undeveloped buds of the flowers found on the Eugenia caryophyllata species of clove tree
Eucalyptus: Obtained from the leaves of Eucalyptus plants, which are native to Australia
Lemon: Extracted from the rinds of the lemon fruit, Citrus limon
Rosemary: Derived from the herb rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis
Some of the potential benefits of Thieves oil include things like boosting immune function and fighting infections. It also acts as a natural pain reliever and helps relieve inflammation.
So, let’s make some tea!
Ingredients:
Thieves essential oil*
Filtered water
1-2 tea bags
Honey
* Note: when using essential oils it is very important to use quality, food-grade oils.
Directions:
Pour your filtered water in a tea kettle or pot and boil your water.
While you water is boiling, grab your favorite mug and add 1-2 tbls of honey to the bottom of the mug. (I know the amount of honey is a personal choice, so don’t let my instructions stifle your honey JOY if you want more. You want 4 tablespoons ,then by golly, do it! )
Put 1-2 drops of Thieves oil on top of the honey and STIR the oil into the honey. This way the oil won’t just sit on top of the hot water, but will merge with the other tea elements :)
After you stir your oil and honey together, grab your tea bags and place them in your mug. Yogi Egyptian Licorice Mint is my FAVORITE herbal tea, but any herbal tea you have will do.
Add your hot water to the mug and allow the tea to steep for 7-10 mins.
Remove your tea bags and then stir your tea to make sure all tea elements combine!
Get comfy cozy, have a sit and think and enjoy your tea :).
I hope this recipe helps when you are feeling under the weather. Please feel free to comment and add any remedies you find helpful for times of sickness. I would love to learn from YOU!
Drink your tea. Rest when you can. Sing a Song.
Stay Healthy, my friend!
With all my heart,
Ms. Amedee
